How Much Does a Fence Cost in New Orleans in 2026?

Fence cost in New Orleans for 2026: national price per foot by material, 6-foot privacy fence cost, gates, tear-out and what changes a quote here.

Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026, which puts a 150-foot yard at $3,000 to $9,000. Those are national numbers. We do not post a New Orleans price list, because the lot sets the price: how long the line is, how tall the fence is, how many gates, what is in the way and how soft the ground is.

These price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not our quotes. Labor and material prices in Louisiana and the conditions on your lot change the number. Last checked October 2026.

How much does a fence cost per foot?

How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?

The national range for a 6-foot privacy fence is $25 to $60 per foot installed. The table below shows totals by length at $20 to $60 per foot. A solid 6-foot fence belongs toward the top of each row. It takes more boards, and in hurricane country it needs heavier posts and bigger footings because it catches the wind.

Fence lengthTypical installed cost
50 feet$1,000 to $3,000
100 feet$2,000 to $6,000
150 feet$3,000 to $9,000
200 feet$4,000 to $12,000

What is the cheapest fence to have installed?

Chain link is the cheapest, starting near $9 per foot by national figures. For privacy at the lowest cost, most people choose pressure-treated pine with dog-ear pickets. For keeping a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5 or 6 foot chain link does the job and lets storm wind pass through. One local limit: New Orleans requires front yard fences to be open, so a solid board fence belongs at the side and back.

Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?

Aluminum is cheaper than wrought iron, at $25 to $75 per foot against $50 to $85. It overlaps with vinyl, which runs $30 to $60. Aluminum also does not rust, and that counts for a lot in air this humid. It gives the iron picket look that suits New Orleans front yards with far less upkeep than real iron.

How much extra does a gate cost?

Each gate is priced on its own, by width, material and hardware. A walk gate adds the least. A driveway gate, or a wide gate for a boat trailer, needs larger posts and footings, and an operator is a further cost. Our written quote lists every gate as a separate line.

How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?

We price those on site, since no two yards are alike. Slopes are rare in New Orleans. The extras we do see are tearing out an old fence and its concrete, cutting back vines, cat's claw and bamboo that have grown through the line, working by hand in a narrow side alley between two houses, and digging around old brick, roots or buried slab.

I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?

The one that spells out the work. Lay the three next to each other and check length, height, material grade, post size, post depth, footing size, gates, tear-out, haul-away and permit. Here the footing is the line to study. In soft, wet soil a small footing is the easiest place to cut cost, and it is the first thing to fail in a storm.

Does a fence add value to my home?

A solid, tidy fence helps a house sell, mainly to buyers with dogs or children. It rarely returns its full cost. Whether it changes your assessment is up to the parish assessor.
