We repair wood, vinyl, chain link and metal fences in New Orleans and the towns around it. Text a photo to us and we can usually say whether you need a repair or a replacement.
Fence repairs in New Orleans usually trace back to moisture. Wood posts rot where they meet wet soil, and Formosan termites finish what the rot starts. Steel posts rust at the same line. When a section leans, the panel is often fine and the post under it has failed. We take out the bad post and its footing, set a new one in a wider, deeper hole, and hang the existing panels again if the wood is still solid.
Wind is the second cause. Tropical storms and summer squalls push hardest on solid privacy fences, and a fence that was already soft at the base goes over first. After a named storm we see whole runs laid flat with the posts snapped at the ground. Chain link and open metal fences usually come through with bent rails or a damaged stretch of fabric. We replace what broke and tell you plainly if the rest of the line is close to failing too.
Gates need attention more often than fence panels. Soft ground lets a hinge post tilt, and then the gate drags or will not latch. In the narrow side yards of shotgun and camelback houses there is little room to brace a post, so we reset it deeper or change it for a heavier one. Send a photo of the problem with the rough length involved and we can usually say whether it is a repair or a replacement before we visit.
Fence repair in New Orleans: common questions
Can you replace just the rotted posts and keep my panels?
Often, yes. If the rails and pickets are sound and only a few posts are soft at the ground, we set new posts and reuse the panels. If most of the posts are soft, replacing the run costs less over time than fixing it post by post.
My fence went down in a storm. How fast can it be fixed?
Call or text a photo as soon as you can. After a tropical storm every fence company in the area is busy at once. If a dog or a pool is involved, tell us, and we can close the gap with a temporary panel before the full repair.
Do you treat for termites when you repair a wood fence?
No, termite treatment is a pest control job. What we do is replace damaged wood with pressure-treated or naturally resistant material and keep boards off the soil. If we see live termites, we tell you so you can call a licensed pest control company.
