How much does it cost to fix a leaning fence?

It depends on how many posts have let go. The posts hold the fence up, so one or two failed posts is a standard repair in the table. If a long row of posts is leaning, we price that row as a new section. That is cheaper than paying for one post after another.

Why is my fence leaning, and can it be fixed without replacing it?

In New Orleans the usual causes are rot, termites and soft ground. Wood posts stay damp at the soil line and decay there. Formosan termites eat wood that touches the ground. And the soil itself is wet and loose, so a small footing slowly tips under the weight and the wind. If the panels are still sound, we put in new posts with larger footings and rehang the same fence.

How much does it cost to replace a rotted fence post?

A post or two normally falls in the $300 to $900 band of the national figures. The old post and its concrete come out, a new post goes into a fresh footing and the rails are fixed back on. Roots, an oversized old footing or a tight side alley make it slower.

My gate sags and will not latch. Repair or replace?

Repair it, most of the time. Gates drop when the hinge post tilts in soft ground, when hinges wear, or when the frame racks out of square. We straighten or replace the post, brace the frame and reset the latch. A new gate is only needed when the frame itself is rotted or bent.

How much does a contractor charge to fix a broken gate latch?

That is a minor repair, $100 to $300 on national 2026 figures. Most fence companies have a minimum charge for coming out, so mention loose pickets or other small things when you call and have them handled on the same visit.

My fence posts shifted after a wet season and the gate will not close. Can they be reset?

Yes. We do not get frost heave in New Orleans, but posts move for a different reason: the ground is soft, it swells when soaked and shrinks in a dry spell, and it sinks over the years. A post that shifted needs a bigger footing, not just a push back to plumb. We dig it out and set it again deeper and wider.

My fence line goes wavy every year. Is it the soil or a bad installation?

It is both, and you can only change the second. Subsidence is a fact across the New Orleans area and the ground will keep moving a little. A fence with properly sized footings and posts set to a string line rides that out much better. If it is rebuilt on the same shallow posts, the wave comes back.

A branch bent my aluminum fence. Do I need a whole new panel?

Sometimes. Aluminum fence built from loose rails and pickets can be fixed part by part. Fence that arrives as welded or assembled panels is replaced a panel at a time. Text a photo and we can normally tell you which one you have.
