If a storm took your fence down, take photos of the fence and of what hit it before anything is moved. Then call your insurer and a fence company. Keep clear of any wire on or near the fence and report it to the power company.
Half my fence blew down. Who can fix it fast and what will it cost?
We can. Call or text (504) 584-7028 with a photo and a rough length. A run on the ground with broken posts is a major repair, $900 to $2,500 by national 2026 figures, and longer runs cost more. After a hurricane or tropical storm, crews and materials across the Gulf Coast are tied up for weeks, so get on the list early.
My dogs are in the yard and the fence is open to the road. What can be done right away?
We can close the opening for the time being. That means bracing whatever posts are still up and fixing a temporary panel over the gap, then returning for the proper repair. Tell us about the dogs, or a pool, when you call so we can put the visit first.
Is there an extra charge for emergency or weekend fence repair?
That differs from company to company, and not all offer it. Ask when you book. A temporary closure now and the permanent repair during normal hours is usually the cheaper route.
Does homeowners insurance cover a fence knocked down by a storm or a tree?
Often, under the other structures part of the policy. But Louisiana policies commonly carry a separate, higher deductible for named storms or hurricanes, and some exclude wind altogether in coastal areas. Flood damage is a different policy again. Only your insurer or agent can say what applies. We write an itemized estimate you can send them.
My neighbor's tree fell on my fence. Whose insurance pays?
In most cases your own policy covers your own fence, no matter whose tree it was. It may be different if the tree was dead or plainly dangerous and the owner knew. Ask your insurer how they handle it. Where the material is still available, we can rebuild just the crushed part.
The insurer offered much less than the repair quote because the fence is old. Now what?
Ask for the calculation in writing. A lot of policies pay the depreciated value of an old fence, not the cost of a new one. Send back an itemized estimate. If there is still a gap, fixing only the damaged run is often the practical choice.
The storm knocked the fence down and my neighbor says it is mine. Who pays?
Start with where the fence stood. Louisiana Civil Code article 685 presumes that a fence on the boundary is common, meaning shared, unless there is proof otherwise. If the fence stood fully on one lot, it belongs to that owner. A licensed land surveyor can mark the line. A fence company cannot. See our shared fence page for more.
Will a new fence stand up to the next hurricane?
No fence is hurricane proof. Open designs such as chain link and aluminum picket let wind through and usually survive. Solid privacy fences take the full push, so post size, post spacing and footing size matter most on those. We size them for the height you choose and tell you the trade-off.
